How do you properly tell someone their work sucks? I'm reading through some of these articles that I've gotten for the school paper, and in all honesty, some of them really really really suck.

I won't name names, but some people working on the paper could really do themselves a paper if they just stopped writing completely.

EDIT: Jems pointed it out, and I didn't notice it at all. It must be the lack of sleep or something, but ... well, just look above. "do themselves a paper." It should be "do themselves a favour"... but I don't want to change it.

Haha. Our conversation of egg rolls comes to mind.

As an editor, I think it would be greatly appreciated if you simply told these people that they could do better to their face instead of writing about it on a worthless internet blog. These people take the time to write their article and unfortunately not everybody has the same amount of potential as you the editor, who thinks most of the articles suck. So take the time and rant about it to their faces, who knows, they might improve then.

As an editor, I have told it to their face. Assuming you're someone I know who is part of the staff, if you haven't been talked to, then don't assume that I hate your work. I took the time to get people out of class to have articles resubmitted.

I'm not the first who's brought this up either. The school staff member who organized the paper also feels the overall quality has gone down, and has been doing the same thing I have. Every now and then, we have a difference in opinion, but in this case, we agreed.

Now, assuming you're a newspaper staff member, why don't you take this up with me, as opposed to posting anonymously on my personal blog? And don't tell me my blog is worthless, because I know. But what difference does that make?
